Paul McCartney honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song

This is one of the most prestigious music awards of all time. The former Beatle was honored by the presence of President Obama and cover versions of several of his songs by such prominent artists as Elvis Costello, Corinne Bailey Rae, the Jonas Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Faith Hill, Jack White, and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters).  One of the highlights of the night was Dave Grohl’s clean cover of the hit ‘Band on the Run’.  Grohl is best known as the front man for Foo Fighters, the drummer for Nirvana, and the drummer for Them Crooked Vultures.  The song itself is composed in a three-part structure and was a no. 1 song on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Elvis Costello – Penny Lane
Herbie Hancock feat. Corinne Bailey Ray – Blackbird
